Funding

A lot of indie developers are working fulltime jobs while trying to get  their title out the door. Having done this before I can say it is not the way to get anything out in a decent amount of time. I’ve decided to include some resources about where to go for funding for game development as well as anecdotes about indie developers who have successfully used them to fund their project.

Kickstarter

Probably one of the most popular destinations to raise money for an indie project. You put together a pitch for your project and the community decides to give you money to help you get it finished. It isn’t really free money, they are actually paying you in advance for a product, usually your game although a lot of creative developers have included perks like vinyl figures of the game characters, original game art and t-shirts to provide an additional incentive for people to donate money. Legal Stuff

I came across these legal documents for designers. They should be useful for illustrators and designers who are making a living but they are also useful for game developers/ designers who are looking to engage an artist on their project. The great thing about these kinds of documents is that they help make all the assumptions about a project explicit and avoid any big falling out halfway through the project. They include contracts for web design and development, illustration and graphics as well as short form NDAs. All of these documents might seem a bit boring and counter intuitive to the creative process but they will help you to protect yourself and your ideas while you are working on your project.
